POI Pulse April 23, 2018

Attendees at the recent Promotion Optimization InstituteSummit in Chicago learned quite a bit on how Amazon uses multiple systems to “price scrape” your product pricing and deals on the web. While they price match strategic accounts, they also have best in class capabilities to review all deals offered on the web.
Opportunity:
POI has initiated with Sri Rajagopalan and Andrew Schiller at Johnson & Johnson to lead a cross-functional team from prominent retailers and manufacturers. They have started this industry initiative to jointly develop standards and best practices (including KPI’s) for eCommerce.
The new group is known as the POI eCommerce Business Leadership Council (EBLC) and will define, standardize, and address eCommerce and omni-channel challenges in the Consumer Products industry. The EBLC team already includes major retailers and anufacturers, and will ultimately include up to 10 retail companies and 10 manufacturers from Grocery, Drug, Convenience, and Mass Merchants.
The EBLC initiative will address these key eCommerce areas (and more or less as decided by the Council):
  1. The Capabilities to focus on when Creating the Dialogue with eCommerce and Omni channel Retailers
  2. Optimizing the Digital Shelf Through eCommerce Insights for Improved ROI
  3. Identifying and Leveraging Insights and Analytics to Succeed with eCommerce Retailers
  4. Optimizing the Digital Shelf to build core brands
  5. How Continuously improving offers will optimize basket, margin, and profit
  6. How best to mine, harness, and connect data from the limited windows provided
  7. How best to improve collaboration with your intra-organizational and inter-organizational teams through advanced eCommerce Analytics
  8. Planning & Forecasting – Determine best practices for ecommerce planning, content strategy, and developing the most effective forecasting processes and teams.
  9. Supply Chain – Review and expound on current best practices for improving product availability (including Buy Online Pick Up In-Store) while minimizing total costs in the value chain for pure play (online only) and other tbd by the group..
The outcomes from this group will include (but not be limited to, based on council agreement) a Best Practices Report, Findings and Notes from Practice Areas plus additional sessions to allow sharing and cross-functional learning.

If you would like to join this effort, this leadership team is looking for a few good women/men who are passionate about this space and want to help drive eCommerce best practices in our CPG industry. Each council member owns ecommerce for their company – there is high value in connecting like minds and driving CPG and Retail forward. If you are interested in learning more or joining, please reach out directly to Mike Kantor at mkantor@p-o-i.org The Council will be limited, please reach out quickly to secure your companies participation.Kraft Heinz UK CMO on ‘the magic’ Marketing Source: (Marketing Week April 19, 2018)

Overwhelmed by all the options of online grocery shopping? Here’s a primer.

It’s taken about fifteen years before most people could buy groceries online in a respectable manner-that is, in the middle of the night, while wearing pajamas. But these internet supermarketshave moved beyond midnight-clicks and two-day delivery-a quickly-growing list of new players in the business are offering same-day groceries, farmers’ market-level quality, menu planning, pre-cut produce, and curated experiences that, well, take the shopping out of shopping. Learn more

Don’t miss the next POI Summit!

Congratulations on another terrific POI Conference!

I thought both the content and panels delivered thought provoking insight and will help every attendee think and act differently as they run their businesses. In addition, I very much appreciated the opportunity to create and sit on a POI Panel. It delivered on its promise, feedback was positive and the attendees walked away thinking about something they did not consider beforehand!

Director, Revenue Growth Management,Consumer Foods Division
