Walmart Again Takes the Fight to Amazon

Nielsen: Mobile Drives Spending, Engagement

Dividing responses by type of device used, the study found that 72% of smartphone shoppers research an item before purchasing it. In addition, 70% check the price of an item, 60% use a store locator to find a store where they can buy their desired product of choice, and 53% read a review of an item they purchased or plan to purchase. In comparison, 66% of tablet shoppers researched an item before purchasing it, while 57% checked the price of an item. Fifty-one percent of tablet shoppers read a review of an item they purchased or plan to purchase. Learn more

POI Perspective

The Event that happened last week at this time (10-5-16 to 11-5-16) in Brussels, BE was neither tragic, nor sad, but instead the 200 CPG and Retail Executive Attendees at the POI European Summit in Brussels demonstrated their commitment, and passion (through all measures of adversity), as they proved their dedication to improving their skills and organizations at Promotion Optimization Institute.  Adversity is nothing new to POI Members and Participants, as we also stayed focused on success in 2014 in the face of Ebola, and other examples throughout the years.  It’s no wonder that this is the group to take on collaborative marketing, and the challenges of serving a changing shopper/consumer.  We are most proud at POI to lead with you around the globe!

As a group we took time to honor and remember those victims and families from the March attacks, and with a portion of the registration fees, POI donated $10,000.00 to the Belgian Red Cross for their great work.

We got right to work on Tuesday, as the tone of the meeting was upbeat, and engaging from the start.  Dale Hagemeyer, Partner, POI presented the latest TPx and Retail Execution research framed around today’s challenging retail environment.

Following Dale, Shane Kingston, Global Commercial Director, Diageo led with examples of success with enabling their Field Force to achieve continuously improving in-store execution, and pricing/promotion results.  The question and answer period that ensued set the tone for our results-oriented summit, and provided pages of notes for all in attendance.

The next two days followed with similar engagement, lessons learned, and strategies to embrace.  I was equally impressed with the cohesiveness, and depth of discussions at the networking lunches, breaks, and dinners.

The presentations from the Summit will be made available on the POI Website later this week.
